I am still trying to understand how InDesign works and am finding it very difficult. After editing the cover photo on Photoshop, I placed it onto InDesign and started playing around with effects. I changed the effects of the masthead on Photoshop and placed it into InDesign:
I think liked the effect so much, I made a plain background of it and copied it onto the background of my cover. I added blue straplines at the top and bottom of the page, and then placed my photo where I want it and this is what it looks like so far:
